This presentation reviews the importance of the feeding program in transition dairy cows: its associations with several metabolic, endocrine, physiologic and immune adaptations, including the occurrence of negative energy balance, hypocalcemia, liver dysfunction, overt systemic inflammatory response and oxidative stress status.
The intensity and duration of time during which these systems remain out of balance could lead to increased disease susceptibility, poor reproductive outcomes and reduced milk production efficiency and quality. Precision nutrition has garnered high interest because of its wide range of actions on multiple organ targets encompassing a series of antioxidant, immune-stimulating, rumen fermentation and microbial modulation effects.
In this presentation, we provide perspectives on investigations of regulating the immune responses and metabolism applying precision nutrition in periparturient cows.
