Biosecurity is an essential part of herd management. As farming is increasingly limited in the use of antibiotics as prophylactics, preventing exposure to disease-causing organisms has become more important. Transport biosecurity is a key part of maintaining hygiene status on-farm and includes the vehicles and personnel associated with transporting the animals.

Vehicles include those used in animal delivery and collection, feed and bedding wagons, waste and dead animal removal, and visitors such as veterinarians, staff, engineers, repairing and trade staff, and technical advisers. Movement of vehicles from one farm to another poses a major risk of disease transmission. All drivers should therefore disinfect themselves, their equipment and their vehicles with a fast-acting, effective product between farms.
