We understand that managing waste on-farm is often out of producers’ control. Waste can occur at various stages throughout the feeding process and in many cases, goes unnoticed. The biggest contributor to wastage and sub-optimal efficiency comes from overall feed utilisation; in the field, in storage, at feed-out and by the cow.

Research suggests that feed is typically the single-biggest variable cost and the most under-utilised resource on-farm with up to 45 percent of feed potential lost from field to cow. To overcome this, Alltech® is committed to helping producers minimise waste across these four areas and to ensure that biggest input goes further. Tackling feed wastage not only represents significant economic savings but also environmental benefits too.

Where is the waste-1

Where there is waste, there is potential!

Identifying the key areas where feed losses occur on farms, can highlight many opportunities for improvement. While there will always be some degree of feed waste, it’s relatively easy to achieve incremental gains simply by paying closer attention to detail and improving accuracy across all stages of the feed process. Even modest improvements at each level will deliver big gains, from both a financial and an environmental perspective.

Emissions from the cow's rumen along with feed inputs, both grown and purchased, account for approximately two thirds of a farm’s carbon footprint. At Alltech, we believe a holistic approach is the only answer to reduce a farm's total carbon footprint. We provide advice across the entire farm, specific nutritional technologies and robust benchmarking, to reduce both physical wastage as well as underutilisation of feed inside the cow.

Tackling waste with Alltech

Whether your goal is to drive more margin from feed inputs, increase animal productivity or reduce environmental losses, Alltech can support with our unique service-offering. Find out how we can help you; from precision nutrition that minimises waste, to analytical services that not only help to improve a farm's carbon footprint, but profitability as well.

YEA-SACC2

Yea-Sacc is the most widely-researched yeast culture on the market, with over 38 years of consistent performance responses of driving productivity in ruminants. Yea-Sacc is unique in its ability to stimulate both fibre-digesting and lactic acid-utilising bacteria, creating a more stable rumen environment.

OPTIGEN

Optigen is Alltech’s non-protein nitrogen source for ruminants. A safe and traceable source that provides a sustained availability of ammonia to meet the needs of rumen microbes. This leads to better fibre digestion and more efficient rumen nitrogen capture, thereby reducing nitrogen waste.

The Alltech In Vitro Fermentation Model (IFM), simulates rumen fermentation and evaluates the digestibility of feed ingredients and total mixed ration samples. IFM also measures the amount of energy lost in the form of methane by feeding a specific ration as well as the methane emission per animal.

E-co2_logo options_approved

Alltech E-CO2 is the leading provider of Carbon Trust-accredited environmental assessments globally. Using our unique on farm approach, our assessors gather information across the entire farm and provide a bespoke report outlining the levels of emissions from each source, along with a total carbon footprint for the farm.
